Shane McKeever

6-8 P.M.

Shane McKeever was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 30, 1991. At the age of four, he began studying piano under the direction of Mrs. Nanette Sonneman where he studied the lives of classical pianists such as Beethoven, Handel, Lizst, and Chopin. It was also under Sonneman's direction that Shane not only performed piano in recitals and studied the lives of countless composers, but also composed his first two songs. After three years with Mrs. Soneman, Shane began studying with his school music teacher Mr. Gervacio Brondial. It was under his strict tutelage that Shane learned discipline and technique.

At age 10, Shane began taking flute lessons at the Music Center Conservatory (now Music Authority),founded by Ms. Lana Gore, and organ lessons under the direction of organist Mr. Kenneth Bruenger. It was at the Music Center Shane met and began studying with Ms. Gore's protégé Mr. Pavel Vasilev. Under Mr. Vasilev's direction, Shane has performed the music of the likes of Chopin, Bach, Beethoven, Debussy, and others. Vasilev began entering him into the annual American Guild of Music Regional Competition where he has won numerous awards.

In 2005, after studying classical music for nine years, Shane was introduced to jazz under the influence of bassist Trent Mitchell, and jazz organist Chris Codish. That summer, he enrolled in the Arts League of Michigan Jazz Camp, which was headed up by the Michigan State Professors of Jazz. It was here that he met and studied with jazz pianist Rick Roe. From that summer on, Shane fell in love with jazz music and never looked back. Shane has gone on to play in his high school jazz band, the Detroit School of Arts Jazz Ensemble. In his school jazz band, he has been able to perform in Atlanta, and also take part in a high school play adaptation of Dreamgirls. In July of 2007, Shane was accepted into the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Civic Youth Ensemble. In 2008, Shane began participating Rebirth Community Jazz Band, studying with pianist Pamela Wise, and saxophonist Wendell Harrison. Shane now attends music at Wayne State University studying under jazz vibraphonist and pianist, Robert Pipho.

Shane McKeever has been blessed to meet and play with some of Detroit's premiere musicians such as Wendell Harrison, Marcus Belgrave, Rodney Whittaker, and many others. Shane is now proud to present his crowning achievement of fourteen years of dedication to the art of music, the release of his first CD, Finding My Way. Look for more to come from this aspiring young talent.
